Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) is a scheme for students with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination results (past and / or current) to apply for admission to programmes offered by the JUPAS participating-institutions.

If you are seeking admission on the strength of HKDSE results (current or past years), you should follow the application procedures under JUPAS. Otherwise you should submit application direct to the University via the Direct Application (Non-JUPAS) route. However, if you are a non-local student wishing to seek admission on the strength of HKDSE results, you should also apply via the Direct Application route.

No, you can only apply either through JUPAS or Direct Application (Non-JUPAS) route, but not both.

We look for students with the key personal and professional attributes that we summarise as the 4Cs: Character and moral responsibility; Competence and professional excellence; Cultivation of wisdom and intellectual engagement; and Civic-mindedness and social responsibility.

Both local and non-local applicants who are applying on the strength of non-HKDSE qualifications are welcome to apply for our government-funded programmes through the Direct Application (Non-JUPAS).

To meet the general entrance requirements, applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:

  1. A recognised post-secondary qualifications such as Associate Degree/Higher Diploma; or
  2. One year of attendance in a recognised Associate Degree/Higher Diploma; or
  3. Non-local qualifications such as a GCE AL, IB Diploma; High School Graduation Diploma or SAT; or
  4. Transfer students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree programmes in a recognised local or non-local university; or
  5. HKALE qualification; or
  6. A mature applicant; or
  7. Possession of other exceptional abilities that merit special consideration.

Non-JUPAS applicants holding non-local qualifications have to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency in both the Chinese and English languages, unless exempted by the University.

Applicants with non-local qualification seeking admission to programmes with English as the medium of instruction will be exempted from this Chinese Language requirement on a case-by-case basis.

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an admission interview(s)/practical test(s) and they will receive the details arrangement by email and/or SMS. Applicants who do not turn up for the interviews/practical tests will not be considered for admission. Due to the tight admission schedule, applicants are strongly advised to check their online application status for the most updated interview arrangements. Request for changing the interview schedule will not be considered.

We work in tandem with the Government in promoting a flexible approach to the development of multiple forms of intelligence, lifelong and life-wide learning. We therefore welcome applications from out-of-school candidates aged 25 or above (on or before 31 August in the year in which admission is sought) with specific talents or achievements and a wealth of experience. Aspiring applicants with a serious commitment to teaching are especially welcome. They may be exempted from the entrance requirements if they can demonstrate their suitability and capability to pursue the programmes successfully.

The University has set aside some Year 3 (senior year) places for UGC-funded programmes. To be eligible for admission to senior year, you should be an Associate Degree/Higher Diploma holder or a transfer student currently enrolled in the second year or above of a recognized Bachelor’s degree in Hong Kong. If you are an AD/HD final-year student, you are also welcome to apply, and your application will be considered subject to successful completion of the programme with a good GPA. Among the factors where the University will consider admission of an applicant to Senior Year Place include equivalence of the subject discipline of the AD/HD to that of our bachelor’s degree and the academic performance of the applicant. To achieve the best learning outcomes, you may be required to study additional courses to meet the curriculum requirements.

Applicants with good GPA in their AD/HD studies will be automatically considered for admission to Senior Year Places of their selected programmes on a competitive basis. No separate application for Senior Year Places is required. Applicants who are not admitted to Senior Year Places will be considered under the regular entry route to Year 1 of the programmes and they may be granted block credit transfer.

Applicants, except for those admitted to senior year, with eligible HKALE/IB/GCE AL and 13 years of schooling or holding an AD/HD qualification with a GPA 3.0 or above will be granted one of the following block credit transfers:

Block Credit Transfer of 9 credit points (cps) for eligible HKALE / IB / GCE AL students with 13 Yrs of schooling:

  1. Electives – 2 courses (6cps)
  2. General Education Breadth Courses – 1 course (3cps)

Block Credit Transfer up to 30 credit points (cps) for eligible AD/HD graduates with final GPA 3.0 or above but failed to gain entry to senior year:

  1. Major-related / Core courses – up to 12 cps, subject to the relevance of AD/HD programme to the admitted undergraduate programme, as decided by the relevant Programme Team.
  2. Electives – 4 courses (12cps)
  3. General Education Breadth Courses – 2 courses (6cps)

Applicants who have been granted block credit transfer/senior year entry are no longer entitled to apply for credit transfer of individual courses based on their entrance qualifications (i.e. no double benefit). On the contrary, applicants who have not been granted block credit transfer can submit an application for credit transfer of individual courses on a case-by-case basis upon completion of programme registration.
